10.6.7 Crashing iTunes For Some MacBook Air Owners

According to a thread on Apple Discussions that received more than 30 replies since yesterday’s release of Mac OS X 10.6.7, the latest software update makes it impossible for some MacBook Air (late 2010) owners to open iTunes. The issue seems to especially affect the new MacBook Airs 13″, and it basically forces iTunes to quit seconds after launch while running 10.6.7.
Before upgrading to a new version of OS X, it’s always a good practice to backup your important files and possibly use Time Machine to save multiple instances of your OS to an external hard drive. When issues pop up, however, there are some tips you can follow to make sure the upgrade process goes as smoothly as Apple (and the user) wants. First off, if Software Update is failing you and you notice issues with some applications, consider running a Combo Update. It’s a bigger download, but in most situations the Combo Update is everything you need to make OS X update to a newer version correctly. You can download the Mac OS X 10.6.7 Combo Update HERE.

If iTunes 10.2.1 is still crashing after a combo update to 10.6.7 and a manual restart, you can erase your iTunes preferences and Genius database to start fresh with the app on the newly updated OS. Preferences can be found in Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences and they look something like this: “com.apple.itunes”. Delete those files when iTunes is closed and reboot again. The Genius database can be found in Music/iTunes and it’s the file called “itunes library genius.itdb”. The database will be rebuilt on next launch, after you accept the iTunes EULA again.

Of course, you should always backup everything on your Mac — especially the iTunes library that stores your music, apps, movies, books and more. Storing iTunes on Dropbox (which in its Pro plans includes a featured called “Packrat” that you gives unlimited access to all your previously deleted files) is a good plan to get started. If you have a MacBook Air and you found another way to fix iTunes on OS X 10.6.7

Apple Confirms No Flash in New MacBook Airs

Couple of days back, Apple introduced 11.6-inch and 13.3-inch MacBook Airs but reports appeared on the web showing that there's no Flash installed on the new MacBooks as it appears "Missing Plug-in" on the browsers.
Today Apple PR just confirmed to Engadget that the same will happen with other Macs in the future, in order to allow customers to go download the most recent version of Flash on Adobe’s website on their own.

Here's the word from Apple:
We're happy to continue to support Flash on the Mac, and the best way for users to always have the most up to date and secure version is to download it directly from Adobe.
The report also confirms that this will be happening across all Macs in the future. It prefers that users download the software themselves in order to ensure that they are running the most up-to-date version. So what do you think about this?

Apple Shipped 2 Million Macs in the U.S. During Q3 of 2010 and Became Third Largest PC Seller

New reports from CNET showing that Apple has shipped 1.99 million Macs in the U.S. during the third quarter of 2010. That's big! It's 10 percent of all PCs shipped in the U.S. during this period. So, Apple became the 3rd largest PC seller in the U.S.! HP tops the PC sellers by 24.3 percent share followed by Dell's 23.1 percent share.
According to the Quarterly PC Tracker Survey released by IDC today, Apple shipped 1.99 million Macs in the U.S. during the third quarter of 2010. That's good for 10.6 percent of the 18.9 million PCs shipped in the U.S., putting Apple's share at its highest in the U.S. in the company's history, according to IDC.
It's a good point for Apple that they could sell all these Macs in this period and I think that Mac sales will increase after the “Back to the Mac” media event next Wednesday. Another interesting thing in the report says that iPad may be the Mac fighter! So we can say Apple fights itself. [via CNET]

Finally, iMac Touch Shows up in Apple Patent

Patently Apple has reported a new Apple Patent which shows the possibility of a touch enabled Mac called "iMac Touch" which was rumored and floating on the web DigiTimes. This iMac can be used under Mac OS X and also enables the user to switch to iOS when sliding the computer down for touch input. It has a stand, when you slide it down, you can change it to iOS interface and start using it as a desktop iPad.
The transition is activated by the accelerometer as earlier described. What’s new here is that you’ll be able to control the threshold determining when the iMac’s transition from OS X to iOS will occur. Meaning, you could for example, set the threshold angle to 60 degrees to call up iOS or at 90 degrees or higher to recall OS X mode.
As you know, this is just a patent but it's totally true and can be done by Apple especially that there were rumors floating around the web back in January!
This patent also shows a MacBook Tablet that acts just like the iMac and can switch from OS X to iOS, but this looking just like a tablet. The iMac Touch would be much better! So, when should we expect from Apple those devices?
